The huge networking company acquired 3-year-old startup Perspica, which actively monitors, analyzes and optimizes complex application environments at scale. Cisco says it will integrate the Perspica technology into its AppDynamics product, which provides network and application monitoring and analytics. One of the reasons it was attracted to Perspica is because of the company’s ability to monitor data in real-time, Cisco says. Being able to process data as it's created or very soon afterwards can speed the time that end users are able to gain insights from the data, the company says. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by Cisco.
The deal shows that Cisco is trying to expand AppDynamics’ capabilities to eventually contain some of the features of other IT infrastructure-monitoring tools like Spunk. It is a part of Cisco’s overall efforts to expand from just selling physical routers and switches to software services for IT staff.
According to company officials, the acquired technology will help organizations improve network performance, reduce operational complexity, and strengthen cybersecurity capabilities. The integration is expected to expand Cisco's portfolio of AI-driven products and services for businesses worldwide.
